John Spilsbury
(1593 – c. 1668)

English cobbler and Particular Baptist minister. Born in London, Spilsbury worked in the Aldersgate area and was originally part of a London Separatist congregation. He withdrew in 1633 over the issue of believer’s baptism and, in 1638, founded the first Particular Baptist church in London, helping to establish a Particular Baptist tradition distinct from both paedobaptist Puritanism and earlier Separatist movements.
