I was first introduced to Richard Baxter’s The Reformed Pastor. It remains one of my favorite books and one in which I will always highly recommend. It has application for every member of a church. Yes, Pastors, but everyone else as well. It’s a vision (and one in which Baxter applied) for the Church. Baxter has a humility and grace that I generally find unparalleled among the Puritans. He is a compassionate lover of Christ’s bride. His service to the Church is an inspiration. I have gone on to read a number of other books of Baxter’s, but the Reformed Pastor always remains my favorite (The Saints’ Everlasting Rest is a close second).
I highly recommend you take the time to mediate on these writings and I hope you will find them as beneficial as I have.
